A Freakishly Big Asteroid Is About to Zoom by Earth

On April 18th, an asteroid known as 2014 JO25 will whiz by our Pale Blue Dot from a comfortable distance—it’ll be roughly 1.1 million miles (1.8 million km) away from us at closest approach. What’s really remarkable is how enormous this thing is; according to NASA, the asteroid is about 2,000 feet (650 meters) in length. That’s about the same size as the world’s longest slip-n-slide, or like, a billion Chipotle burritos—the latter is an estimate.
