Welcome to the WAS website

Wellington Astronomical Society is an incorporated society and registered charity for promoting astronomy in and around the Wellington region.

Note there will be no regular monthly meeting in January.  Our next regular meeting will be held on the first Wednesday in February 7th 2018.  In addition to the usual program we will be having a talk by Prof Kathy Campbell about “Hot springs and the search for life on early Earth and Mars”.

A gentle reminder that our subscription year began in September, so WAS looks forward to receiving your subscription renewal if you haven’t done so already.  Renewal information can be found here.

If you have any suggestions for things you would like to see on our website then please email the webmaster or fill out the “Contact Us” form.

Our Facebook page is at this link.  The last few post from the Facebook page are included below for your viewing pleasure.

Geminids 2017: New Zealand's best meteor shower even brighter tonight

Best time to look tonight is after midnight and before moonrise around 4am. With an average rate of over 100 meteors per hour, you should see plenty if the skies are clear!

Lucky Kiwis are already taking photos of the stunning sight.

Who’s launching what

Amazing to see how many rockets get launched in a month!

The rocket launch scheduled from Earth for the rest of December, if all goes well.
