Telescopes - Solar Viewing

Telescopes have many uses..

This is our preferred solar viewing method.

Solar Viewing Equipment: Important Safety details here.

This is one method of solar viewing, it is very dangerous and must only be done by a responsible adult. It is not recomended and will not be used at public events run by WAS. Our society Safety rules apply. The Circular wooden surround item at the centre of the image is the approved filter, and is securely fitted over the front of the telescope, to prevent accidental exposure to harm.

The power supply that I use to run the C8 Telescope and ancillary equipment, for instance the light for the sign. The solar panel provide approx 0.12 Amps in bright sunlight and the inverter drains 0.3 Amp to run the telescope motors. The battery is 12 Volt gell cell with 18 Amp hour capacity.

The projected image of a quiet sun, with ZERO sunspots today, Friday the 13th October 2006.

The sun taken directly through the C8 solar filter.

The sun taken through a Williams optics DCL-52 camera adapter and the C8. The 'clean' lower edge of the image is the limb of the sun, the faded edge is the telescope out of proper alignment. The spots are dirt or dust in the optics, even after careful cleaning.
