Wellington Astronomical Society is an incorporated society and registered charity for promoting astronomy in and around the Wellington region.

Upcoming Events

Our next regular WAS meeting will be on Wednesday the 1st of May at 7:30pm.  Please note the change of venue for this month’s meeting. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at NZ Post House on Waterloo Quay, Wellington, and not at Space Place, Carter Observatory. Enter from the south side of the building and a receptionist will point the way to the meeting room (venue change is only for May, back to normal next month).

WAS Astrophotography group / Dark Sky Observing – Saturday 4th May 7.00 pm, Star Field – John Whitby’s dark sky site.  Further details are here.

Known as “The Pope’s Astronomer,” Br Guy Consolmagno SJ will be delivering a free public lecture on the 7th May at the Notre Dame des Missions Performing Arts Centre, Sacred Heart College, 65 Laings Road, Lower Hutt.  Note registration is essential.  Further details are here.

The RASNZ 2019 Conference will be held in New Plymouth 17 – 19 May and will be followed by the 13th Trans-Tasman Symposium on Occultations.  Further details are here.

 

NASA has created posters featuring a group photo of the crew for all of the Space Station mission since 2000.   These posters were used to advertise expeditions and were also hung in NASA facilities.  Below is a typical example.
